Nigeria: Siasia Gives NFF Two Weeks Ultimatum To Pay Outstanding Salaries

Former Dream Team VI coach Samson Siasia has told the Nigerian Football federation to pay him his outstanding salary in 14-days or face legal actions.
The 49-year-old further threatened to protest in front of the NFF secretariat if he doesn’t get his pay within two weeks.

Siasia, who took the Dream Team VI to Olympic Bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, resigned in August citing the expiration of his contract with the NFF.

He said despite quitting his role the Glass House must pay him all he is owed.

Following a meeting last month with Siasia and sports minister, Solomon Dalung, the NFF General Secretary Sanusi Mohammed assured that the coach would soon receive his outstanding allowances.

However the federation admitted that it is cash strapped, noting that the problem associated with the country’s Treasury Single Account is the reason behind its failure to pay him.

However up till today the body is yet to pay the outstanding allowance.

“I have given them a two-week ultimatum to me pay me or I will sit inside the NFF office in Abuja until I get paid,” Siasia told BBC Sports.

Siasia served as Super Eagles’ Head Coach between December 2010 and October 2011, before his contract was terminated following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also coached the National u23 and u20 sides to second place finishes at the 2008 Olympics and the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup

Pay rows have often surrounded Nigerian teams, with coaches not paid regularly, while players have boycotted training during important qualifiers or at major tournaments over unpaid bonus.

Due to the current recession facing the country, the NFF has cut their backroom staff and slashed the salaries and allowances of the various national team coaches, excluding new Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr.
