Ohaneze Ndigbo calls for demilitarization of Igboland
THE President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, has lamented what he described as the militarization of Igboland.
He said the nook and crannies of Igboland is in fact which is dotted with military and police check-points.
According to Nwodo, the check-points are not just check-points but tollgates where commercial drivers are extorted on daily basis.
The new Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader spoke this weekend, at the Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, while addressing a meeting of Igbo leaders and elders at a post summit meeting organized by World Igbo Summit Group.
He said he has travelled to Lagos and Abuja and did not see such militarization, noting that from Enugu to Onitsha, he counted up to 17 check-points with the attendant extortion from the drivers.
