- Celebration in some parts of the state caused traffic
The granting of bail to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the
Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) has sparked jubilation in Rivers state with
some of the youths declaring support for Biafra. NAIj.com had reported that
Kanu was granted bail on health condition by Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday,
April 25 and this sparked celebration among Igbo youths around the country.
The Punch reports that this celebration spread to the south
south especially in Rivers state where youths waved Biafra flags in jubilation.
There was much celebration in Ada George road especially among traders and
motorists who said there was nothing wrong with Kanu’s Biafra agitation.
Charles Uwandu who is one of the youths said: “We are happy
that Nnamdi Kanu has finally been granted bail. We are happy because we
recognise his (Kanu) fight for Igbo. We are calling on him to continue in the
struggle for Biafra.” Another youth who simply identified himself as Okechukwu
said Kanu’s bail showed that there was hope for Biafra and said he would
continue to drink in celebration till Kanu finally gets his release.
He said: “Kanu’s release on bail today shows that there is
hope for the Igbo; it shows there is hope for Biafra to become a country.” The
news caused serious traffic in some areas as motorists noted that youths
celebrating on the streets slowed down commuting.
