IS IT TRUE THAT IT IS DESPOTIC AND DICTATORIAL GOVERNMENTS/LEADERSHIP THAT DESPISE FREE MEDIA?

0

One of the major contributory factors to the incubation, or concealment of despotism and dictatorialism of many governments of the world, especially in Africa is the docility of the press, which in itself has its root in the emasculation and/or decapitation of the press by the governments in question, through various means of arm twisting and intimidation, including threat of death, or even outright covert, overt, clandestine, or direct acts of assassination of the media personnel.

It needs to be pointed out that one of the major causes of despotism, which is usually associated with, and works hand in hand with autocracy, is the deviation from the original goals, which may have been presented to the people, which along the line, is overshadowed and overwhelmed by inert, inherent, and forceful selfish and egocentric motivations, which usually relegate, or even consign the original aspiration or goal to the background, or even to the dustbin.

In many instances, the arrowheads of such aspirations have fallen victims to their own selfishness, making them overlords of their former colleagues, or some of their colleagues have schemed them out, due to their selfish desires that are packaged and camouflaged as higher level of wellbeing for the generality of the people.

Africa is replete with examples of the above assertion, as the cases of almost every country in Africa come to mind.

However, it has also been known that some people, who claimed to be genuinely concerned about the misery and wretchedness of the people, who presented themselves as revolutionaries, were indeed, agents of external forces. The case of Western parasitism and rulership by proxy, as is common with Britain and France, is handy in this instance. These two parasitic countries have wreaked havoc in many countries, because of their desperation to install their stooges, so as to ensure that their exploitation of the helpless countries continues unabated.

Now, even as these dictatorialism, autocracy, and despotism go on in government circles, it becomes disheartening that in some other lower groupings, such as Town, Market, Community, Social, Professional, and other formal and informal groupings, this virus of authoritarianism is equally the case.
How can people, who gathered themselves together to solve a common problem, aggravate the same problem that they gathered to solve, by letting their personal considerations override the expectations and aspirations of the generality of the people? No wonder you begin to see very bitter rivalry among hitherto bosom friends.

But the most painful type of this autocracy, which deploys all within its arsenal, to ensure the moronism, the subservience, the, docility, and the despondency of the media, is when the leadership of the people, who assembled themselves to fight injustice, begin to subject the small group of the oppressed people, to greater oppression, injustice, bondage, and enslavement than the one they are fleeing from.

Whenever this type of situation arises, you will be compelled to recall the events in George Orwell's Animal Farm. The tragic turn of events in that satirical novel needs not to be over emphasized.

Considerably, when the leadership of these small groups can make their fellow victims the objects of merchandise, subjecting the same victims to back breaking taxation, like Uwazurike, and worst of all, forbidding anybody to complain, or to let the higher authority to know, or branding anybody that lets out the pressure of the unbearable burden as a rebel or saboteur, then, where is the morality?

It can be seen from the above, it is because of the desire to conceal their abominations, their oppressive tendencies and deeds, their atrocities, their mammonism, their egocentricism, their megalomania, and their gluttony, that governments/leadership do not want independent, vibrant, and objective press/media.

Rather, they will prefer, go to any extent, pay any price to have a docile, dormant, moronic, despondent, and lifeless press/media, which is at their beck and call, so that they can commit any form or degree of monumental crime, without any person putting them on their toes.

The above accounts for why despots and autocrats are irritated, and averse to a free press/media.

As we inch towards the Biafra referendum, every Biafran is charged afresh that all hands must be on deck concerning referendum evangelism, so that this Biafra referendum will be a sweeping success. Sight must not also be lost on the boycott of the charade called elections in the abominable aberration and British inhumanity called Nigeria. The boycott must be total.

God bless Ikemba Nnewi, Odumegwu Ojukwu.
God bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
God bless Biafra and Biafrans.

Come quickly Oh Biafra!
