THE RUINS OF NIGERIA AND THE RISE OF BIAFRA
Seeing the end in retrospect, I can attest that we all
saw the contraption called Nigeria zealously raging to her grave.
We warned against it.
Our cries fell on deaf ears and our voices sank into the ocean of self-deceit,
embellished with empty noise and foolhardiness. And today we all bear witness
to her interment.
When we called for referendum, they accused us of being
warmongers, though we had killed no one.
When we asked for justice, they accused us of treasonable
felony, though we never attempted to topple any government.
When we asked for the discarding of the fraudulent 1999
Constitution imposed on us, they called us unlearned men, thought we can read
through their deceit.
When we protested, they tagged us miscreants, though
we're responsible citizens and civilized men and women.
When we asked for freedom and sang for self-determination
unarmed, they labelled us 'TERRORISTS', though we bear no arms
Unjust jail, cruel tortures, forced disappearances,
extrajudicial killings were our daily meals and menu for ever speaking up
against the dooms day.
No need to cry when the head is already detached from the
neck. Just a matter of time before silence envelopes the island of fools while
we tell the story: once upon a time, there was a country called Nigeria!
I see Biafra, the Land of the Rising Sun take her
rightful place amongst the comity of nations and I see the potentials of Africa
finally unleashed and her population unshackled.
